First of all I have to apologize for not keeping up on this webpage, I have been doing a lot of hiking and not much computer work. I will try to do better in the future and start posting some pictures from some of the hikes I have taken. It is amazing how beautiful the area around here is, and also how good the fishing can be in the high alpine lakes.
On Monday my son Brad and I hiked into the second chain lake and went fishing. The hike is only about two miles, but it gains around 1800 vertical feet. It is a steep hike. It was a cool day, below freezing when we started but by the time we reached the first lake I was overheated. The trail is good to the first lake, but between the first and second lake not so much, luckily it isn't very far between the two lakes. After reaching the second lake I was a little disappointed to see that there weren't many fish jumping. Still we put on a clear float and dry fly and started fishing. I thought the fishing would get better as the day warmed up but was surprised when Brad hooked a fish right away. Soon after I had one on too. We released several smaller fish, but soon had a limit of nice cutthroat. Brad caught one that was around 15 or 16 inches long. We packed up and headed home, since we were a little cold. The hike out was fairly easy, but you have to pay attention to the trail, it would be easy to have a serious fall. All in all it turned out to be a great day.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
